ANN CROOK
In 2007, I moved to Vernon and was immediately struck by the natural beauty of Western Canada. With a lot of skiing, and hiking I have begun to absorb some of the spirit of the region and this is reflected in my drawings, etchings and paintings.
I have a B.A. Hons. (Fine Arts) degree from the University of Ottawa with the first and second years of that degree spent at Sir George Williams University in Montreal and Mount Allison University in Sackville New Brunswick. It was at Mt. A. where Printmaker David Silverberg’s teachings inspired my love of classic etching, which I have practised over the last 40 years.
I enjoy being a member of the Okanagan Artists of Canada Society in Vernon and am an Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
My work is held in private and public collections throughout Canada, New Zealand and the U.K.
Etching is a very old art form. I draw my design with a steel needle onto a zinc plate that is covered with an acid resistant coating. The plate is then “etched” by immersion into a bath of nitric acid, which “bites” the drawing into the plate. It is then inked and run through a hand-cranked press, to produce a “print”. My editions of etchings are limited to about 30 prints per plate. Sometimes, I cut zinc plates to the shape of individual birds or animals and etch an image in the plate reflecting their habitat.
I enjoy working with acrylics for my landscape paintings.
All paintings, etchings and content on this website are protected by copyright of the artist.
Visitors are welcome to my studio, by appointment, and I welcome commissions of acrylic landscape paintings.
